Wedding planning, the first step

Congratulations on your engagement! Now it’s time to start planning your big day. Planning a wedding can be a daunting experience, but with support from friends and family, it can be less stressful and fun. Sort out the basics first so you have a rough idea of the what, where, when and how much you can afford or wish to spend.

What type or style of wedding?
Every one of us ladies have a rough idea of our dream wedding since we were little. For you, it is the time to see if you can make it a reality. Do you want a big wedding or a small one? Will it be a religious or civil wedding? Do you want it in a traditional setting – church or town hall or beach? What do you like best then work out what is achievable and available in your area.

Where do you want to get married?
To get married abroad, on a beach, in a castle or in the church… where do you want your big day to happen? Bear in mind the fickle British weather, the many restrictions, the logistics and that some venues are not high heels and white dress friendly .

When do you want to get married?
What day of the year you wish to make a special day? The earlier you decide the easier to book wedding suppliers and easier for your guests to set aside the day for you. Some wedding suppliers accepts installment payments to help you manage your cash/budget – this also means you can potentially choose a better package or product. Check your own calendar for family weddings, anniversaries or other events, like big conventions or festivals in your city (call your local chamber of commerce), school reunions and any annual occasions that involve your family or close friends. Avoid public holidays and religious and cultural holidays too.

How much?
Everything wedding related cost a tiny fortune these days. So, this early on, work out a budget you are willing to spend or work out how much you can spend. Know how much will help you prioritise on what to spend it on.. the dress, the guests, rings, photographer… Keep in mind the items/services that will have larger impact. Once your budget is sorted, you can start your detailed planning. Be creative! There are a lot of ideas available on line. Check them out! One of the places I send my clients to is Pinterest.

I hope this first step in your wedding planning is helpful. Please do not hesitate to check out the suppliers in the directory, specially if you are in the London, Essex and Kent area.
