The DJ option

Music will set the mood and the vibe of your event and is as important as everything else. If you do not have a budget for a live performer, a DJ will have to do. The good news is, like everything else, DJ’s comes in all shapes and sizes. So, before you ask google to find you one, here’s the pros and cons of a DJ.

Pros

  • DJ’s are more affordable than live performers
  • They have a massive collection of music to choose from
  • DJ’s are natural emcee, just make sure your DJ is up to the task.
  • Continuous playlist, no breaks required
  • Some DJ’s have disco lights

Cons

  • You are at the mercy of a one man show.
  • DJs are known to bring too much equipment, from lights, bubble machine, fog machine, etc.
  • Some guests think DJ’s are too casual for the occassion
  • They may take more effort to get the crowd to participate

Tips

  1. Research and ask for recommendations. There are use groups on FB who are always ready to recommend a DJ they like.
  2. Please read your contract carefully and do not hesitate to clarify points you are not sure about.
  3. If you have an unconventional venue like a barn, please make sure that the available power outlet/plug/source can support the requirements of the DJ. Finding a generator on the day of the wedding is near impossible.
  4. For a perfect bridal dance photograph, please tell the DJ to turn laser lights and any purple lights, they don’t look good in pictures. Ask your photographer for advice too.
